Christ in Majesty

The Christ figure sits on a sytlized throne in a mandorla and blesses the viewer with his right hand. His left hand holds a book with the inscription EGO SUM LUX MUNDI QUI SEQUITUR ME NON AMBULAT IN TENEBRIS (John 8:12ab). The mandorla is flanked by the symbols of the four evangelists – all winged as in Revelation 4:7-8. Each of them holds a book open to the first verse of his particular gospel.
